ABOUT US

Been There, Printed That

Our journey started in 2018 when Shelly launched Back Forty Lifestyle Co., a small outdoor apparel brand that quickly grew into a full-scale screen printing operation. What began in a spare room turned into a storefront, and by 2022, we officially opened Hometown Prints to bring the same level of craft, care, and obsession to custom apparel for businesses, teams, events, and brands like yours.

We’ve Been in Your Shoes... And Your Shirts

If there’s anyone you want handling your branded merch, it’s people who spent years perfecting their own.

We’ve spent years testing, refining, and perfecting our process because we believe custom printing is more than just putting ink on fabric, it’s about delivering quality products that look incredible and last. From classic screen printing to embroidery and direct-to-film (DTF) printing, we offer high-quality customization tailored to your needs.

Whether you need bulk orders for your business, a few pieces for a special event, or something completely unique, we’re here to help make it happen

WE PRINT FOR PRETTY AWESOME PEOPLE

FAQ

When we get questions, these are usually them.
  • Primarily Screen Printing, DTF Printing and Embroidery. We also offer other customization options like patches and woven labels. While we don’t technically market ourselves as a promotional products supplier, if there’s something else you need just ask! We might facilitate it or at the very
least point you in the right direction.

  • We generally stick to wearables that are sourced through us. We don’t embroider teddy bears or screen print posters, etc.

  • Screen Printing: 1 color: 8 garments, 2 color: 12 garments, 3-6 color 24 garments. Per Design.

DTF Printing: We can produce one item, but more expensive as we do bulk discounts.

Embroidery: We can produce one item, but more expensive as we do bulk discounts.

Tote bags: Are a minimum 20 pieces for a 1 color screen print or DTF print run.

Patches: 25 pieces is usually the minimum for production.

  • It is!

  • For screen printing we use vectorized files, generally ending in .ai, .svg, .eps or .pdf. Though what is saved in those files is not always vectorized. Send us what you have and we can always vectorize it if not already done. There may be an art fee depending on order size/complexity of art.

For DTF Printing we can use vectorized or .jpg, .png files that are saved on a transparent background at the highest resolution (300 dpi minimum).

For embroidery we need to digitize the file to tell the machine how to stitch the logo. We can use a variety of file types for this just send us what you have.

  • Currently, we work with ready to print logos and designs. Ready to print means digital files of your logo or design. We do not offer re-creation of screen-shotted designs or full custom design services. We can refer you to a handful of designers depending on what you are looking for.

  • We scale art to fit all sizes in a print run. It will be sized as big as we can for the smallest garment without being obnoxiously large on it. Scale to a degree depends on the proportions of the art itself but generally 9-10”w for full chest/10-11”w for back and 3-4”w for a left chest.

For embroidered hats the design can be no more than 2”h.

  • Screen print: 13” w x 15”h

    DTF: 15”w x 21”h

*Your garments must be able to accommodate a large print

  • Anything you own the rights to. Your business logo or original artwork whether created by you or for you by a designer. We will not knowingly print anything that infringes on Trademarks or Copyrights (Ex: Canucks Logo/Harley Davidson Logo/Budweiser Logo/another artists work). Some people do which is why you see replications of them, but we do not.

  • In some situations, yes though it is not a standard service we offer. Please reach out prior to purchasing something to find out if it is something we will do. There are minimums and other particulars to consider.

  • We choose not to. It most often does not turn out well.

  • Just reach out and let us know what you are after! We will see if it is something we can bring in, though we do order from industry suppliers rather than consumer sites. Currently, we are not importing goods due to the administrative requirements.

  • Yes! For screen printing, if the same design can be printed on all items you are free to mix + match. Same goes for hat orders, you are free to mix + match styles

  • We do! We have a selection of our most recommended products. There are a literal ton of blank options, so we don’t have everything here because that’s overwhelming.

  • Generally, no. Everything is ordered per order as there are too many options.

  • We can order a blank sample for you for a fee (the sample will be yours). It can be included in a print run so long as it remains in new condition. We are not able to screen print samples unless they meet our order minimums. We can print a sample with DTF though it is more costly

  • Pricing is based on a few factors (garments selected + decoration method + logo details + quantity). In all cases, our pricing is in quantity tiers so the more ordered, the more cost effective per item. One of anything is generally not cheap though we can do it with certain decoration methods.

  • Fewer print locations and colors in the logo/design.

  • That’s how our suppliers all do their pricing, so we follow suit rather than mark up all other sizes to streamline pricing and absorb the cost of specific sizes.

  • We’re happy to take a look at a quote you’ve received to ensure we are quoting on the same garments (there are tons and everyone has different go-tos when trying to narrow down options) and see what we can do if the pricing is lower than ours. This extends to places outside of our immediate region too. We will not match home-based business prices because (insert costs of operating a full shop).

  • We don’t charge set up fees on top of the per-garment prices that we quote. There may be vectorizing or digitizing fees which are based on complexity, though at certain order volumes we offer that for free. We do charge for ink changes in a screen print run (there also must be 12 pieces receiving each ink color) and we also charge for custom ink mixes though we have a bunch of house colors to choose from.

  • Shoot us an email, give us a call or stop by the shop. Send us as much info as you have (logo file, garment requirements, approx. quantity and we can get the ball rolling for you.

We do keep all order communication out of social media DM’s so that we can keep our heads on straight. Right now, we don’t offer online ordering because we like people and human interaction is nice. We may down the road offer that for those that prefer to cut the chit chat and like to knock off the to-do list in the middle of the night.

  • After selecting your garments and finalizing a few details we will put together the workorder for you to approve. After that we will send over the invoice for payment. If your art is already vectorized (or usable), mock ups will also be sent at this stage to approve.

If artwork needs to be vectorized, it will be done after payment is received (before ordering garments just in case you decide you want to change a color or something, there is a hefty re-stocking fee so we wait). After the mock up is approved garments will be ordered and put in the production schedule.

In some cases where vectorization is required upfront to facilitate garment selection, an art fee may be charged in advance of the rest of the invoice.

  • We try to have everything complete within 2 weeks of receiving final approval of mockups, because waiting months for your merch is kinda silly. There are certain things that may impact that, shipping delays/product shortage/manufacturing patches, and sometimes busier times of year for us but generally within 2 weeks for the bulk of things we do. If you are working on a certain deadline just let us know.

  • Just reach out and we will see if its possible depending on timeline! A rush order would be subject to additional charges.

  • Anywhere within Canada! Orders over $500 ship free!

  • Preferred payment is by e-transfer or by direct deposit, banking info can be provided. We accept credit card payment in shop and though we do incur additional charges for manual entry of credit cards, we currently accept them over the phone with no additional charge to you. We do not have online payment processing.
